Dortmund in high spirits ahead of Champions League clash
Augsburg no match for rampant Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund made a statement ahead of next week's Champions League semi-final return leg with a dominant 5-1 victory over Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Sébastien Haller scored twice as Dortmund cruised to victory at Signal Iduna Park, with Karim Adeyemi, Emre Can, and Julian Brandt also on target.
Augsburg, who had Renato Veiga sent off in the second half, were never in the hunt as Dortmund stretched their unbeaten run in all competitions to eight games.
The victory takes Dortmund top of the Bundesliga, one point ahead of Bayern Munich, who play later on Saturday.
Dortmund will now turn their attention to the Champions League, where they will face Manchester City in the semi-final return leg on Wednesday.
The German side will be confident of reaching the final after their impressive display against Augsburg.
Dortmund were in control from the start against Augsburg, and they took the lead in the 15th minute when Adeyemi fired home from inside the area.
Can doubled Dortmund's lead with a header from a corner in the 26th minute, before Haller made it 3-0 with a clinical finish in the 33rd minute.
Augsburg pulled a goal back through Florian Niederlechner in the 53rd minute, but Dortmund restored their three-goal advantage when Brandt scored in the 69th minute.
Haller completed the scoring in the 82nd minute with a well-taken goal.
The victory was a perfect way for Dortmund to prepare for their Champions League clash with Manchester City.
Dortmund will be without the suspended Nico Schlotterbeck for the game, but they will be confident of getting a result against the Premier League champions.
